4 Tips to Protect You & Your Home During Hurricane season
Peak hurricane season starts in late August, which means that we only have about a month to prepare. We assumed that most already know the basics of hurricane preparation such as listen to your local authorities or stocking up on supplies, but here is a list of some lesser-known tips that can help you out down the road:
1)Know your home insurance policy
Knowing what your home insurance can and cannot cover will make you better prepared for future hurricanes or other accidents. Most people do not know what their insurance covers until after a hurricane, so knowing beforehand can help you modify and plans and better prepare you in case of of an emergency.
2)Secure Your House
Make sure you bring any items that can possibly get blown away inside your house or a shed. This includes outdoor furniture, plant pots, and gardening tools. Also check to see if your doors and windows are nice and sturdy as flying debris from a hurricane can break though the weak points in your home.
3)Make a Contingency Plan
It is important to know what you and your family will do in certain events, such as where to meet up if you are separated from the group or where to go if you are given an evacuation notice.
4)Protecting Important Documents
Make sure your documents are in a sturdy water proof case. In the event that your home is effected by a hurricane, you will need your personal identifications, ownership documents, and insurance policies to start the recovery process. This can prove to be difficult if you have to get new documents and IDs before you can move forward.
